Honestly, i wish this race to see who can cram more cores into a processor will cease soon, i love the advancement's they are making and processors are faster than ever now, but what i would like to see is for each core to have it's own dedicated bus.
What would you like to see amd or intel do in the near future? |

Well, at least they didn't take the path of just adding more processor slots to motherboards. By now we'd have 4 slot motherboards just to get a "quad" lol

How many do we need? Two cores is enough for most people.
How many do we want? As many as we can get.

I heard their making a six core proccesor. Imagine how fast you could render a model with a million polygons

Still though, only one bus, there will be a point where you could have 100 cores compared to a 10 cores and theres no difference in speed.

I think you are talking about the mac pro, and thats just 8 cores (two quad core xeons)
Link maybe? Intel made a 80 core cpu, and amd is working on a 12 core named istanbul. Last edited by disturbedcreations; 05-02-2008 at 08:09 AM. |
